This course is offered under the program of the HKUST Summer Institute for Secondary School Students by the School of Business and Management. This is an introductory course that provides students with the knowledge about how to manage. What does it take an organization to outperform its competitors? What makes people effective at their jobs? What motivates people? How do organizations monitor their performance? These are some questions we will explore in this course. Based on the core functions of a manager, namely, planning, organizing, leading and controlling, this course investigates topics such as strategy, organizational structure, motivation and management controls.
