Description

This course helps students critically assess China’s institutional reforms, economic performance, and changing role in the global economy. Students will learn to apply principles of macroeconomics and political economy to analyze topics including: China’s economic growth determinants and current economic challenges; innovation, including China’s efforts to be a global leader in key areas such as 5G and artificial intelligence; international trade, including China’s position in global value chains and impacts of the US-China trade war; and international capital flows, including inbound and outbound FDI, the impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and issues related to liberalization of China’s capital account and internationalization of the renminbi. Graded P or F.
