2021-22 Summer - ECON4999W - Writing as an Economist

Course

Description

This pilot course will teach students strategies to pose questions, frame ideas, link hypotheses to economic principles and empirical methodologies and develop a written argument in economics. It focuses on application of economic concepts and reasoning outside the textbook, and clear and convincing written expression of that application. Students will learn to “do economics” both as an academic discipline and in the broader context of their lives. Registering students will be asked to complete a short survey before enrolment decision; those who register by 6 June will receive a decision by 10 June; those who register later will be informed in due course. Enrolment by instructor permission. The class is expected to be conducted in face-to-face mode; if the situation does not allow for face-to-face mode, real-time participation is required. For ECON, ECOF, GCS, QSA and MAEC students only.
