This course tracks the opening of China up from 1978 until President Xi Jinping's "one belt, one road" policy, focusing on how China's opening to the world affected China's internal development and how China's "going out" policy has affected the world. The focus on the "going out strategy" includes China's search for energy, talent, markets, technology, as well as its relations with the United States and the states within the Indo-Pacific region.
