This course is offered under the program of the HKUST Summer Institute for Secondary School Students by the School of Engineering. The objectives of this course are to provide students with the development of tall buildings and long-span bridges and the basic knowledge of structural design and behaviour of structures considered. Areas covered include an overview of the tallest buildings and longest bridges in the world and the concepts of structural design and aesthetic challenges. An introduction to seismology and seismic hazard of buildings and bridges is also included.
