The course provides fundamental knowledge in engineering geology and rock mechanics as applied to rock engineering design and practice. Topics include: major rock types, weathering process and local geological setting; mapping geologic structures and stereonet analysis; rock mass classification, stress-strain-strength properties of rock mass and joints; analysis and design methods for rock slopes, rock foundations and underground tunnels. A field trip will be arranged to visit Hong Kong GeoPark.
