This course is a survey of different approaches to the interpretation of art and their influence on artistic creation through time. By reviewing the traditions of art theory from its very beginning in the 15th century to the 20th century, the course guides students to think critically about the theoretical bases of different approaches, and to contemplate art in the age of AI in the 21st century. Students will learn to use the key terms and definitions of the approaches and their applications, as well as the criticisms of the approaches.
