This is an advanced module in the philosophy of the social sciences. The students will be provided an overview of the history of the social sciences (especially sociology and economics). In addition, the module will cover some of the central debates in the philosophy of the social sciences, such as the paradigm wars, and examine some important concepts in the social sciences including ‘social mechanism’, ‘explanation’, and ‘causation’.
