Description

This course introduces the various ideas, actors and institutions in environmental politics, as well as their dynamics in shaping environmental policy. The first part of the course presents the competing theoretical foundations for environmental politics and discusses the major forms of collective action. The second part analyzes government's policy responses to environmental activism in the context of capitalist political economy. Students will benefit from the perspectives into managing environmental sustainability through democratic politics and reflecting on the relationship between nature and society.
