2025-26 Spring - ELEC3610 - Quantum Mechanics for Electronic Engineers

Course

Description

Instructor(s)/Supervisor(s)/Coordinator(s): Andrew Wing On POON
This introductory course in quantum mechanics is designed for electronic engineering students, with emphasis on applications in semiconductor device physics and quantum information processing using electrons and photons. It covers foundational topics such as waves and quantum mechanics, quantum states, operators, measurement, electron spin, angular momentum and rotation, time-evolution and the Schrödinger equation, position and momentum, wave mechanics, quantum confinement and tunneling, the harmonic oscillator, quantum information processing and computation. Delivered through lectures and tutorials, the course prepares students for advanced electives in microelectronics and optoelectronics. Students will conduct an independent study project on quantum mechanical technologies.
