2026-27 Fall - CIVL6100U - Biological Waste Treatment and Resource Recovery

Course

Description

Instructor(s)/Supervisor(s)/Coordinator(s): Samir Kumar KHANAL
Design of aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment processes for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants and recovery of resources from waste streams. Design of biological treatment processes with a focus on removing organic and inorganic pollutants and recovering resources (i.e., energy, water, nutrients; other useful products). Aerobic, anaerobic, suspended and attached growth systems are discussed. Computational models to facilitate design are introduced. The students will gain deeper insights on biological waste treatment processes through active engagement, field trips, lectures by subject experts, and team projects.
