Instructor(s)/Supervisor(s)/Coordinator(s): Jay Joan MINUTIThis course introduces EVMT undergraduates to urban biodiversity, ecology, ecosystem services, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in Hong Kong, with examples from cities around the world. Students will learn to analyse biodiversity patterns, apply ecological concepts to real-world sites, value ecosystem services, understand carbon pricing and green finance, distinguish NbS from grey infrastructure, and evaluate NbS designs using the IUCN Global Standard for NbS and the HK CEDD-AFCD NbS Design Guidelines. The course also explores emerging technologies, including the integration of AI, for biodiversity monitoring and NbS evaluation. Assessment includes a campus biodiversity portfolio, a group NbS proposal presentation, and an MCQ exam.
