Description
Instructor(s)/Supervisor(s)/Coordinator(s): Julian MAKMachine learning is increasingly prevalent in research fields including ocean science. This course provides hands-on practice of deploying machine learning methods to tackle ocean science related problems and data (largely numerical but with some focus on text data, such as that for genomic data). The focus will be relatively skewed towards applications of various types of neural networks to the oceanography relevant data to enable tackling of the scientific questions. The course will equip students with quantitative transferable skills, preparing students for the challenges of the job market, whether they decide to continue with ocean science or pursue other disciplines. Students are encouraged to discuss with the course instructor of suitability of their scientific background for this course.
