Biography
Prof. Frederik Anseel is Dean of Business and Management, and Professor in the Department of Management at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
He is a senior academic leader with over 15 years of management experience in globally leading business schools and social science faculties of higher education institutions in the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and Asia. His key expertise lies in designing cross-disciplinary collaborations and partnerships with the industry to solve societal challenges.
Before joining HKUST, Prof. Anseel served as Dean of the University of New South Wales Business School. Under his leadership, the school was ranked the number one business school in Australia for three consecutive years and achieved continuous top-ten rankings in the Financial Times for its Online MBA.
His prior global leadership roles include Vice Dean at King’s College London in the UK, Head of Department and Talent Management Advisor to the Rector at Ghent University in Belgium, and Visiting Professor positions at École Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC) Business School in France and Bocconi University in Italy.
An acclaimed scholar in leadership, learning, and feedback in organizations, Prof. Anseel is ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University and serves on the editorial boards of seven journals. His work has won several academic awards, including multiple Best Paper awards at the Academy of Management.
He is also a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in the US, and the International Association of Applied Psychology, and served a five-year term as President of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology.
Prof. Anseel holds a PhD in Organizational Psychology from Ghent University, Belgium.
