Abstract
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have a very unique structure and outstanding properties, showing great potential in a wide range of applications. The diameter controlled growth of SWNTs is one of the key issues in this field. In this review, we discussed the strategies for controlled growth of SWNTs from the perspective of catalyst size control and growth condition modulation. Designing and synthesizing catalysts of uniform size and preventing the agglomeration and ripening of the catalysts are the main issues of controlling the catalyst size. Chemical vapor deposition conditions such as the composition and concentration of the carbon source, growth temperature, and other gas components also significantly affect the diameter distribution of the SWNTs. Effective control of the size of the catalysts, combined with reasonable regulation of chemical vapor deposition growth conditions, can achieve the diameter controlled growth of SWNTs.
