Abstract
20年前，中国的历史人口统计学基本上还是一块空白。这方面有用的资料很少，同时一些有用的资料又未得到重视。可以这样说，中国封建帝国晚期的人口，既是现代文明之前数量最大的人口，又是人们知道得最少的人口。如此认识是不无道理的。
