Abstract

45° twins and microtwin domain structure in electron diffraction patterns displaying pseudo-eightfold rotational symmetry were studied in a rapidly solidified Cr5Ni3Si2 alloy by means of transmission electron microscopy. The high-resolution images usually consist of overlapped 45° twins of the β-Mn structure and appear quite different from that of the octagonal quasicrystal. A twin model is suggested.
