N2 - This paper analyses the large deformation of an elastic-plastic symmetrical shallow truss subjected to a static symmetrical load. An energy criterion is provided to examine the stability of the symmetrical deformation path of the truss. For a truss made of elastic-perfectly plastic material, the stable non-symmetrical deformation path and load-deflection curve are determined.
