Abstract
In the small scale unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and distributed electric powered aircraft, multiple rotors are often employed. The close distance between the adjacent rotors leads to the possible mutual interactions. This work constructs a dual-rotor testing platform allowing detailed investigation of the aeroacoustic characteristics of the multi-rotor interaction. The measurements of rotor thrust show that the aerodynamics of the dual rotors is different from that of the single rotor. In terms of aeroacoustics, both the tonal and broadband noise components of the dual rotor are simply 3 dB higher than the single rotor when the data acquisition time is sufficiently long. Possibly, the differences in time is averaged. The findings in this paper are beneficial for simplifying the numerical and theoretical analysis of the aeroacoustics of multi-rotors.
