Abstract

In this paper, integration of a wireless communication system with an illumination system is proposed. A transparent radiator is designed on an illumination cover surface which allows visible light to pass through and to transmit and receive radio frequency (RF) signals simultaneously. A transparent single patch antenna and antenna array have both been considered. Possible applications include smart lampposts, headlights of automobiles (vehicle-to-vehicle communications) or helmets for providing data services and illumination at the same time.
