Abstract

The construction of functional polymers from acetylenic triple-bond building blocks is discussed. Researchers used acetylenic building blocks, as acetylenic polymerizations can afford conjugated polymers that are difficult to access by the conventional vinyl polymerizations. Acetylenic monomers also have high potential characteristics, to become a group of building blocks for constructing functional macromolecules, while acetylenic polymerizations may become useful tools for developing specialty materials. Many researchers have made efforts at polymerizing acetylenic monomers, to explore their potentials for the creation of functional polymers. These efforts have led to significant developments in the area of research, while new acetylenic monomers have been made and new catalyst systems have been discovered.
