Abstract
Line-to-ground (LG) faults and line-to-line (LL) faults reduce the operating efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) systems and even lead to severe accidents such as fire hazards. Since the maximum power point tracking controller can reduce the fault current, the conventional protection devices such as overcurrent protection device and grounding protection device can not be triggered. Therefore, in this paper, a voltage-sensing-based technique is proposed to accurately detect and locate LG faults and LL faults by analyzing the fault voltage. The voltage characteristics under various fault conditions are analyzed to develop the LG and LL fault detection and location algorithm. The simulation results verify that the proposed technique can detect and locate the LG and LL faults effectively.
