Abstract

This paper proposes a theoretical analysis for the dynamic response of a rigid perfectly plastic simply supported beam with an imperfection in the midspan cross-section under uniform step, pulse, and impulsive loading when support is assumed to be free to move inward. The complete solutions for an entire dynamic response process are given and the relationship between the distribution of energy dissipated at plastic hinges and the parameter of imperfection is also discussed.
