Abstract

Formation mechanism of titanium dioxide nanotubes was described. These nanotubes when synthesized by a simple hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 crystallites formed a crystalline structure with open-ended multiwall morphologies. The results showed that TiO2 crystallites delaminated during the alkali treatment forming single-layer sheets. A higher temperature provided the driving force for the formation of TiO2 nanotubes.
