Abstract

A hybrid analog-digital driving method has been proposed for driving the AMOLED. A frame has been divided into N subframes corresponding to the N bit image data. Each subframe is binary weighted by either the duration or the pixel "on" luminance. The pixel "on" luminance is controlled by the voltage level of the common cathode of the OLED (Vcom). By changing the amplitude of Vcom, the "on" luminance can be binary varied. The proposed driving scheme can be applied to a 4K or even 8K UHD AMOLED with 8-bit gray level.
