Abstract

The the inviscid linearised stability theory has been applied to investigate the effect of a weak opposing main flow stream on the instability of a circular jet. The amplification rates of the axisymmetric and first azimuthal mode disturbances are calculated different frequencies. The results show that the instability of the jet is enhanced by the presence of an opposing stream. Some experiments have also been performed to supplement the instability results.
