Abstract

The design, and operation of wind and structural health monitoring system (WASHMS), which was used for instrumentation and monitoring of cable-supported bridges, were discussed. The objective of the instrumentation and monitoring was to detect and evaluate symptoms of operational anomalies or damage that may induce adverse effects on safety reliability of the bridges. The system was composed of modules that include the sensory system, the data acquisition and transmission system, the data processing and control system, the bridge health evaluation system, and the portable inspection and maintenance system. The graphical plots such as, wind-rose diagrams, spectral analysis, and fatigue life assessment were used for the analysis of monitoring results.
