Abstract

Evidence for the dominance of 2D-XY behavior in a magnetic graphite intercalation compound (GIC) is presented. The strongest present support for 2D-XY behavior in a magnetic GIC comes from a comparison of the high temperature series expansion calculation above Tcu with susceptibility measurements for a high stage CoCl2-GIC sample and from a comparison of the experimental susceptibility results with a more general model Hamiltonian that is applicable over a broader temperature range.
