Abstract

Metadata of institutional repositories is usually encoded in traditional formats such as Dublin Core. These metadata description schemes lack an effective structure that facilitates understanding of the data semantically by machines. This presentation reports the project at HKUST Library to revamp metadata of research outputs, researcher profiles, research funding and journal's open access policies into Schema.org vocabulary. The result is a Linked Open Data triplestore, with SPARQL querying endpoint that will enrich information discovery, enhance search engine optimization, and enable data analytics. This presentation will demonstrate how HKUST SPD linked data can provide insights about open access and funding pattern of research outputs published by the University’s researchers.
