N2 - The sampler timing (phase) sensitivity of wireless communication systems is discussed in this paper. Based on the matched filter bound technique, a tight error performance bound is derived for systems experiencing frequency selective Rayleigh fading, with the receiver timing offset being quantified in the error performance expressions. With the error performance bound, the timing phase sensitivity of systems with both symbol spaced receivers and fractionally spaced receivers is analyzed. Simulation results show that the new bound can accurately predict the performance of practical communication systems suffering both frequency selective fading and timing phase offset.
