Abstract

The SID International Symposium 2004 held at Seattle highlighted a close competition between Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing (DLP™) and liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCoS) in meeting the demands of rear-projection-TV market. Samsung displayed various rear-projection TVs based on DLP™ chips from Texas Instruments while Philips showed their LCoS rear-projection TV. Optical design house Advanced DigitalHouse (ADH) has both DLP™) and LCoS for licensing. SpatiaLight showed various customer-designed rear-projection TVs including those from SVA and CEC. Microvision Inc., showed its retinal-scanning LED and eMagin Corp. showed 3-D game headset equipped with motion sensors. Solomon Systech showed an NET product based on a Kopin panel and Cambridge Flat Projection Displays, Ltd., showed a unique multiple-reflection technique for projecting an image with a very flat form factor.
