Abstract
The Hierarchical INTerpolation (HINT) algorithm provides an interpolated-pyramid data structure that is truly lossless and non-redundant for progressive image transmission. By splitting the interpolation into two directional stages, the so-called interleaved HINT (IHINT) is developed to further reduce the resulting entropy. In this paper, we introduce a new IHINT algorithm based on the quincunx sub-sampling grid, in which the diagonal interpolation is done first. We equip this algorithm with two novel interpolators that are based on some FIR-median hybrid filters. Simulation results consistently show an improved coding performance.
