Abstract

STEM projects are widely recognized for providing students with integrated learning experiences, allowing them to explore multiple STEM topics through hands-on activities, data collection, and result interpretation. Projects solving real-world problems give strong motivation to students to expand knowledge in science and technology. In this paper, we present two IoT projects for tilt angle measurement and water level sensing aiming to solve two different real-world problems in Hong Kong. We conducted a trial course to a selected group of students covering a) LoRaWan technology which offers long range and low power capabilities b) practical experience in setting up micro:bit based IoT sensing devices, collecting data, transmitting data to a server wirelessly, and processing data and interpreting processed data.
