Abstract
The focus of this paper is to address the problem of optimalmeasurement location for manufactured part modeling (MPM)with CMM coordinate data. In the manufactured part modeling approach, a shape deviation model parameterized to representthe part's actual geometric attributes is determined from the measured data. The resulting model parameters are then used to makedecisions regarding part acceptability and/or manufacturing process control. The goal of optimal measurement is to ensure theaccurate and robust estimation of model parameters. A sensitivitymeasure that reflects the confidence associated with the estimatedvalues of the parameters and their robustness against singularityis developed as a criterion for choosing measurement point locations.
