Abstract

The storing volume of 3D models is an important problem in distributed virtual environment (DVE), for complex models are always the "bottleneck" of large scale DVE performance. Aiming at this, a method of building DVE based on fractal technologies was proposed, and combined with OpenGL, a "Sea Battlefield Distributed Virtual Environment (SBDVE)" was constructed. All kinds of 3D models fractal algorithm were analyzed, including wave, seabed terrain, texture, and plants. The storing formats of 3D models and the architecture of DVE database were discussed.
