Abstract

The data representation and exchange is the key problem to integrated building design system. First, the information representation and exchange via paper drawings during the current building design process was discussed. The fact that there was no standard for data representation of existing building information models was highlighted. Then, the development of integrated building design system and Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) was introduced. Finally, the algorithm on building information exchange and sharing between multi-architectural and structural design software applications was presented with the application of IFC standard. 4figs., 9refs.
