Abstract
This paper presents exact model calculations of optical diffraction from VideoDisc signals. It describes the simplified model of VideoDisc signal elements used in the calculations. Solutions to the plane-wave and the focused-spot diffraction problems are given. In each case differences between the results of the scalar and the exact theories, and their implications for the optical playback and inspection systems, are pointed out and discussed.
