Abstract
Pulse duration dependent free carrier absorption was observed in a thin gold film deposited on BaF2. An electron-phonon scattering time of 13.5 ps was extracted from this measurement. A plausible explanation for this unusually long relaxation time is given by examining the details of the second-order quantum mechanical process.
