Abstract
An attempt is being made to develop procedures to obtain initial state and constitutive model parameters by in-situ testing. A centrifuge model test is used in the present study for comparative purposes. A non-destructive electrical method is used to characterize the soil. Representative electrical parameters to the centrifuge model are hypothesized. A fully coupled nonlinear effective stress analysis procedure SUMDES is used in the analysis with soil behavior simulated by a bounding surface hypoplasticity model for sand. The development of liquefaction and the pore water pressure generation is investigated in the fully coupled nonlinear analysis. The excess pore water pressures, calculated from the analysis, are in close agreement with the measured excess pore water pressure during the centrifuge test.
