Abstract
Drawing upon self-control theory, we predict that subordinate poor performance elicits supervisor hostility, which in turn results in abusive supervision. Moreover, supervisor self-control mitigates both the experience of hostility and the behavioral enactment of hostility. In a multilevel field study with supervisor-subordinate teams, we found support for our proposed model.
