Adapting the post-colonial studies' approach of 'native informant perspective' , this paper analyses the special role of Chinese-Han language writers (including both 'national minorities' and Han writers) in the construction of the discourse of 'multi-nationalities China', that is, in bringing heterogeneities into the Han culture and constructing, using the Han language, an unknown story about China. This study looks into two sets of literature: 'Minzu Wenxue' , whose subject is national minorities, and 'Xibu Wenxue' , whose subject is Hans living in the interior. Based on these materials, this paper also examines the interrelation between the concept of 'diversity in unity of the Chinese nation' (introduced by Fei Xiaotong in the late 1980's), the debates on the 'changes in the subjectivity of national minorities' and on 'nationalities or ethnic groups' , and intellectuals' fears about potential national disintegration in the context of globalization.
