Healthcare and wellness have become a popular topic that younger generations are putting immense attention in China. From the statistics published by AliHealth in the "2017 Annual Health Consumption Report" [1], it is revealed that around 52% of the customers who purchased healthcare products from Alibaba’s online shops were around 18 to 29 years old, with an expected growth in this market segment in the years to come. The younger generation in China has become aware of the importance of healthcare and wellness and hence become more willing to invest in their own health. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with its over 2500 years of history of practice, provides an effective solution for preventive health that can sustain a viable business in the market. This thesis aims to analyze business potential of utilizing TCM in preventive health by establishing a platform to educate, promote, and call for attention to take advantage of TCM and Chinese tonifying herbs for healthcare and wellness. I will introduce the theoretic and scientific background of TCM, together with the analysis of a survey on the health status of young people in China. I will also describe the contemporary research on Chinese tonifying herbs and their quality control. In regards to business and commercial aspects, I will focus on analyzing the market background, potential and practicability for building and promoting the platform for young consumers. I will also compare our proposal with other existing TCM platforms to find out whether our proposed platform has any competitive edge.
