Electrochemical functionalization of olefins and diarylmethane

Abstract

In the past few years, many efforts have been made in utilizing electrochemistry by many research groups. No pollution, high atomic utilization rate, and no requirement of equivalent oxidizing or reducing agents make electrochemistry more popular to chemists. Over the years, a large number of research groups have devoted to electrochemical studies. Due to the advantages of electrochemistry, the possibility of combining electrochemistry with the vicinal difunctionalization of olefins or asymmetric reactions catalyzed by chiral amines has been explored. On the one hand, electrochemistry directly participates in the functional process of olefins by using electrons as redox reagents. It is possible to synthesize substances that are difficult to be obtained by chemical methods. On the other hand, it is desirable that electrochemistry as a method of oxidation can contribute to asymmetric synthesis, and thus it is an alternative oxidation method for asymmetrically synthesized precursors.
