As the environmental awareness increase over the years, electrical energy powered vehicles are ushered in a booming development. Started with the electric bikes then the electric automotive. Now it is time for the electric outboards to follow this trend. Comparing with the traditional gasoline outboard engines, an electric outboard does not only has the advantage of zero-emission but also quieter, lighter and easier to use. During the project period we developed a 1KW electric outboard and this thesis gives an introduction about the process of developing its motor control system. The control system is based on Field Oriented Control, comparing with the traditional Six State Control method, it provides better efficiency, lower noise and better dynamic control. The FOC solution is used to be expensive but we have developed a low cost solution that is suitable for our application. The details about the algorithm, software and hardware design will be discussed in the thesis.
